Speed Limits

“We have speed limits because we (as human beings) are not quite the best kind of species.” — Daniel Padinha

The reasoning for this quote can be a long one if you want to discuss it with your friends (or on this blog post ;)).

First off, our life expectancy has been rising each and every year after the previous years. With this thought, we can see that this has pretty much happened because of a lot of things, which science can explain, math which is of course behind all these sciences, physics for the automobile, life sciences for the medicine, and of course computer science for the ones who make us laugh because they have a blog and so bringing happiness and laughter is proven to increase one’s life expectancy. It has only been showed that over time, we have evolved, which practically means that we are evolving all the time. Therefore, we can see that with these advancements in science and with a Darwinism school of thought, we ourselves, are living longer, longer than ever. “We have speed limits because we (as human beings) are not quite the best kind of species.”

Secondly, with all these sciences, I totally forgot to mention the engineers that of course “rule the world”, ERTW? Yes, in fact they do. Civil Engineers are the worst culprits of the bunch. If you’ve ever noticed driving on a road and actually paying attention to the speed limit and going at it, then you will be able to understand this next sentence, otherwise you have to start driving like that. If we drive at that rate; we don’t have to actually do crazy sharp turns when being on on ramps, we can actually pay attention to those kids and seniors crossing the streets, and most importantly, so we won’t get into “accidents”! I put accidents in quotes because technically we are all capable of going much faster on highways. So, (you may ask, or not ask) “Why do we even have signs in the first place if they place a “limit” that really isn’t a limit at all, since we just realized that we are capable of driving faster?” We have these signs for one reason and only one reason, which is for the intoxicated individuals. They put those limits there so the people who are drunker than drunk will most likely not drive that fast because they want to live. The intoxicated person (now known as “R2-D2″), focuses on the speed limit and stays at it because thats the law, and R2-D2 doesn’t want to get a ticket or get pulled over. Another reason why the limits are there is because when R2-D2 is now going at that speed, they can actually check their blind spots and will be able to have enough time to do anything but crash. While say R2-D2’s buddy, C-3PO is not paying attention to the speed limits, C-3PO’s mind won’t be able to register everything and be able to compute all the events occurring (going at the highways’ speed limit value with an excess of 40+ of the speed limit’s value). At this speed C-3PO wants to switch lanes to pass a slow car up ahead and just realizes that there is a car there (in his blind spot) and then after realizing that, C-3PO goes back to it’s original lane but C-3PO is still looking at its blind spot, C-3PO looked forward and saw the red lights on a truck, realized that the truck was idled because of traffic up ahead… It was too late and (C-3PO) was pronounced “Malfunctioned” at the scene. Therefore we can see that the speed limits were put on for that reason. Back to my point, after knowing all this, the Civil Engineers had to build proper roads, design optimal ramp structures that could be ran through series of computer simulations and calculating every variable, they had to make us to get from point X to point Y (and/to point Z) in a safe way. In a way such that we don’t kill ourselves. In a way where the intoxicated people don’t kill (there are always some out there, and which therefore (from a Statistician) will decrease the chances of having more deadly car accidents. “We have speed limits because we (as human beings) are not quite the best kind of species.”

Lastly, this ties in with the previous point which is simple, if we keep pushing ourselves to our limits and trying to surpass them, we will become much stronger. We have more medicine and more doctors because we simply want to live and not die from diseases, we are striving to live longer. We try to understand physics and engineers to keep us safe from ourselves in this world. How can I forget those computer scientists that have a naturally, powerful, problem solving technique. This is backed up from their deep understanding of logistics courses that have formed their minds into thinking logically about every sentence, thinking logically about everything. I am pushing myself everyday and I believe that making yourself push yourself everyday will make you smarter, you will push yourself to be whoever you want to be, you will want to try to keep going more above the limits because that is what we naturally want to do. We always dance with limits. The day you finish that dance, is the day you surpassed your limit and you are onto the next song. I’m dancing with my limits right now and after every song that I listen to I want to surpass them. Hi, my name is Daniel, and I am (officially, will soon be after a two-month-and-a-half-epic song) a computer scientist. We push ourselves and even our teaching institutions, just so we can learn more and learn a lot quicker. We have gyms to work-out and which has been proven to make you stronger and healthier. “We have speed limits because we (as human beings) are not quite the best kind of species.”

Of course, I speed officer… but it’s only in Grand Theft Auto.

Fast Forward

Before I go on, I just realized my last post was on Tuesday — I got fast forwarded.

So now that my stats class is finished (as of yesterday), I discovered how to fast forward time! The easy way to do it is simply take a summer course. I just finished a half credit in half of a full semester. It just seems like yesterday that I first stepped in and listened to my lecturer speak about Events and Sample Spaces in his broken english. Now if you’re not in school there are other ways to fast forward time, they are:

• Fast food instead of dining in
• Reading spark notes on a book that will take to long to read
• Watching a movie based on a book, very similar to the spark notes idea.
• Hibernating
• Watching a movie in fast forward
• Listening to music (in fast forward, obviously!)
• Waking up late and the falling asleep in a short period of time, then you missed a day, very similar to hibernating.

So that is my crappy list, and I don’t care if it’s crappy, I really don’t… you just read it, so that’s all that matters, so really you’re the one that is crappy. If you think you can come up with better ideas then please, show me up. Thought so, you don’t have what it takes! Or do you¿? :-o
